Core values should reflect both what a company has been and what it is becoming.
Waste Logic has operated on four core values: Team, Be Real, Fun, and Grow. They were written when we were a smaller company, and they did their job. They shaped how we work together, made decisions, served our clients, and built our culture. As our company has grown, however, so has our understanding of the responsibility we have beyond our own walls.
That evolution led us to introduce a new core value: Impact.
Impact means championing sustainability, giving back to our communities, acting with a social conscience, and building a positive legacy. These commitments now sit alongside our existing values, creating a clearer picture of what matters to Waste Logic today and where we want to go next.
We also made one change inside an existing value. Here's what prompted both, and what we're committing to as a result.
What Was Missing?
Our original core values built a strong internal culture, and they still describe who we are. Nothing was removed.
We believe in elevating others, finding alignment, and being supportive and collaborative. We value authenticity, transparency, accountability, and integrity. We believe there should be room to celebrate, enjoy the work we do, continue improving, encourage creativity, and grow professionally.

But as Waste Logic evolved, we recognized that something was missing.
Our values spoke clearly about how we operate internally, but they did not fully capture the impact we want our business to have externally; on our partners, our communities, our industry, and the environment our entire business exists to protect. For a waste and recycling management company, that's a significant omission. The environmental outcome isn't a side effect of what we do. It's the product.
That matters because sustainability and social responsibility are increasingly woven into how we think about our business. Our purpose is to do the right thing for our team, our partners, and the environment while making commercial waste programs simpler, smarter, and more sustainable. Our vision similarly focuses on transforming how Canadian businesses manage resources through sustainable solutions, innovation, transparency, and service excellence.
Adding Impact helps connect those ambitions back to the everyday decisions we make as a company.
Why Change Now?
Waste Logic is not the company it was when those original values were written. We've expanded our service lines, grown the team across the country, and continue to evolve our sustainability function.
As an independent waste and recycling partner, we're not driven by increasing waste volume. Our model allows us to focus on performance, diversion, transparency, and accountability, using data and vendor partnerships to help clients achieve stronger environmental and operational outcomes.
As our business has matured, our approach to ESG has matured with it.
For us, responsibility cannot exist only in statements or intentions. It needs to translate into measurable action. Our ESG approach considers environmental performance alongside employee wellbeing, community involvement, governance, ethics, and the long-term value we create for our stakeholders and the communities in which we operate.
Updating our values gives us an opportunity to make that responsibility more visible and more intentional.
Impact is not about changing direction. It is about putting clearer language around a direction we were already moving in, and setting a higher expectation for ourselves as we continue to grow.
Why Impact? And Why These Four Commitments?
We chose the word Impact because it asks us to look beyond activity and consider outcomes.
- Are we helping our clients make meaningful progress on sustainability?
- Are we strengthening the communities where our employees live and work?
- Are we using our resources, expertise, and time in ways that contribute something positive?
- And are we building a company whose success creates benefits beyond the business itself?
Those questions are reflected in the four commitments behind our new value.

Champion sustainability. Sustainability is central to the work we do for clients every day – it's what they hire us to deliver. From improving diversion and reducing unnecessary collections to using better data to support decision-making, we want practical environmental improvements to be part of how we define success.
Invest in our community. Success is measured by more than business results. This commits us to contributing to the places we operate, not just where it's convenient or visible. Not only financially, but through our people, partnerships, and time.
Act with social conscience. Decisions have consequences beyond the transaction. This is a standard for how we weigh choices, including the harder ones.
Build positive legacy. We want the decisions we make today to contribute to something lasting, whether that means better environmental outcomes, stronger communities, or a workplace where employees are empowered to make a difference.
One Change to "Grow"

We also added "develop professionally" to our Grow value, alongside continuously improve, encourage creativity, and have passion.
Growth as a value can easily mean nothing but company revenue. Naming professional development makes it clear that we mean investment in people and long-term careers, which is a harder commitment because it requires budget, time, and manager attention.
What Impact already looks like
Impact is a new core value, but community investment is not new to Waste Logic. Our 2025 ESG report documents where we've already been putting resources.
In 2025, Waste Logic contributed both financial and non-financial support to community organizations and initiatives. That support went to food security, health and wellness, youth programming, emergency preparedness, waste reduction, and community development. We also donated used office furniture through Regenerate Contracting Inc., keeping it in circulation and out of landfill.
Our ESG report also sets a forward commitment: to deepen our social impact by focusing on food insecurity in Canada, through both financial contributions and employee volunteer initiatives, and to report progress in our next annual report.
Now, we're taking another step forward.
Giving Our Team Time to Make an Impact
Beginning in 2027, Waste Logic will introduce a formal Workplace Volunteer Program designed to give employees dedicated paid time to support causes that matter to them and to our company.
Eligible employees will receive up to 16 hours of paid volunteer time each year. Eight hours can be used to support a personal cause through a registered non-profit, charitable organization, school, or community organization of the employee's choice. An additional eight hours will be available for company-sponsored volunteer opportunities.
Those opportunities may include food banks and meal programs, community clean-ups, environmental initiatives, youth programs, educational activities, health and wellness charities, and other causes aligned with our values.
The goal is simple: make community involvement easier to participate in and give our employees meaningful opportunities to contribute during their workday.

Although the formal program launches in 2027, we're not waiting until then to get started.
On August 14, 2026, Waste Logic employees spent the afternoon volunteering with the Edmonton Food Bank, packing meal boxes for local families.
It was an opportunity to step away from our normal roles, work together in a different way, and contribute directly to an organization supporting people in our community. It was also an early example of what we hope Impact will look like in practice: not simply something written on a wall, but something employees can participate in and help shape.
More company-supported volunteer opportunities are already being planned.
More Than a New Core Value
Adding Impact to our core values is a small change in words, but it represents a much bigger commitment. It connects the sustainability work we do for clients with the responsibility we feel toward our communities. It gives our employees another way to participate in that commitment. And it challenges us to think about the legacy our decisions create as Waste Logic continues to grow.
Impact gives us something to measure ourselves against and something to keep building toward. Because doing the right thing is not only about how we operate our business. It is also about what we leave behind.
Holding ourselves to it
A core value is only worth what it commits you to. Adding "Impact" means we've taken on external commitments that can be checked, in our community investment figures, in our emissions and diversion reporting, in volunteer participation, and in the external audit of our reporting by 2027.
We'll report against all of it. That was the point of writing it down.
