Hazardous Waste

Canada produces 6 Million tons of hazardous waste each year.

Hazardous waste is found across most industries; from residues created in industrial processes to agricultural chemicals. Products like old batteries, used oil, solvents, and acids, these hazardous products often end up in landfills where they wreak havoc. Some cause immediate danger, while others are a long-term risk to the environment and our health.

Why It's A Problem

Aptly named, hazardous waste is products that are flammable, toxic, or corrosive. They pose a significant risk to our environment and our health. Unfortunately, a large portion of the hazardous products we produce each year end up in our landfills. They can seep into our soil and water systems, where their impact poses short-term and long-term risks. Thankfully, through the Canadian Environmental and Protections Act (PECA), federal and provincial governments have begun regulating these products and seeking solutions for their disposal.
